A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A WRITER
Or I Just Can't Switch Off my Imagination

                                                              A DAY INSIDE THE MIND OF A WRITER

I don't know about you, but I think in stories. I even dream sometimes in stories.

My mind is constantly active, especially when considering a new storyline.

            What elements will I use?
            What will drive my main character?
            What setting can I create to draw in the reader?

Most importantly, what message do I want to convey?

In my second novel, Treasures in Clay Vessels, Nellie parker always dreamed about going on adventures. While she and Henry J. Lewiston, her future husband, are in London, England, Nellie's inner dialogue goes something like this;

"Here I am at the Queen's Palace and it's just as I imagined. When I was a child, I daydreamed about English knights and young maidens. I was fascinated by the style of dress during that period of time."

When I visit a place, I often wonder what it would be like to live and work in that environment. In the Rich American Woman, Amelia is working with the poor in a small village in India and passes some women washing their clothes on a scrub-board. Amelia makes the comparison between her life and theirs.

Years ago, I visited India. I found it a fascinating country with many unusual and ancient traditions. While I walked through towns I wondered, what my life would have been if God saw fit to place me in this country instead of the United States.

As you can see my mind is quite busy, but having an active imagination is a blessing for a writer because in the world in your head there might be lurking a bestseller!
