THAT FOUR-LETTER WORD – EDIT!
EDIT! EDIT! EDIT! AND YES – EDIT AGAIN!
To me it is just one of those four letter words I do not care to hear. But hear it I must if my work is going to be credible in the marketplace.
I learned this lesson the hard way I am embarrassed to admit. A few years ago, I completed my first masterpiece. I had friends edit my novel and an English teacher and of course – I edited it and sent the final manuscript to the publisher.
I decided to self publish the book and the editing fees were out of my budget, so my backup plan was to use everyone I knew to help me. I thought I had all my ducks in a row, but apparently, a few ducks got away because the novel was printed with some errors.
The book had been review and I was told the story had lots of potential, but the errors took away from it.
You can imagine how my heart broke at that bit of news. Therefore, the lesson learned here it to get a professional editor. There are some who are reputable and cheaper than the self-publishers themselves are. A good resource is faithwriters.com for a reasonable and thorough editor.
I am working on second novel now and I can assure you that no ducks will get away from the formation this time around!
